When we’re happy, we’re more likely to get things done and maintain good habits. Happiness, you might wonder what has this got to do with staying healthy and focusing on wellbeing, but the connection between serotonin and your wellbeing is real.
With more than 90 percent of serotonin is made in the gut it is no wonder when we have a happy gut we also have a happier mindset.
I have been a fan of probiotics for many years as the production of the “happiness hormone” depends on having a healthy population of gut bacteria.
The mood we keep daily, as well as digestive issues, are often associated with the presence of pro-inflammatory bacteria. Adopting a mostly plant-based diet that includes plenty of fibre and polyphenols,
as well as consuming fermented foods regularly, encourages the good gut bugs to thrive and work their mood- and health-boosting magic.
This is why I have adopted and promote a plant based diet as well as plant based supplements.
Moving to green supplements means that you are adding to your plant based diet the nourishment that is recognized by our body.
I cannot tell you how different my hair, skin, sleep and my joints feel since adding to my already healthy diet green supplements that provide me with the antioxidants I need for this new world we are now living in.
Getting your gut right is where it all begins and many call this the gut/brain relationship and I call it being aware that our mind and body are not separate but rather the dynamic duo that motivates us to stay on focus with all that we set out to do.
Next time you are buying wholefoods also consider what supplements to buy go through this checklist:
Are they
- Plant based?
- Veggie capsules?
- Supporting sustainable practices?
- In packages supporting our planet?
Our resolutions, whether made at New Year’s or any time of year, do not have to end up unfulfilled. Even though, we have now moved to April when we align our health goals with our values and pursue them from a place of loving ourselves enough by selecting nourishing food and nourishing supplements, we will find the pathway to make our health the best it has been.
I encourage you to take the step this April and be the change that inspires others to follow you.
Our planet will also be happier as your are changing your carbon footprint by selecting a more sustainable way to live daily.
